Every Carnival ship has a casino, usually smack in the middle of the main entertainment deck. Carnival is also well known for the Punchliner Comedy Clubs on its ships, which draw quality comedians and can get a little raucous late at night with adult-only performances. In general, the production shows aren't nearly as sophisticated — or as long — as what you'll find on Royal Caribbean or Norwegian ships. Carnival draws a lively, outgoing crowd looking to be part of the action. In recent years, Carnival also has deployed two of its vessels to Australia to operate voyages from Sydney and Brisbane. In a departure from Carnival's American-focused business model, the Australia sailings are aimed mostly at the local Australian market, though they are open to American travelers.

The pianist/singer was top-notch and had a great rapport with the guests. The only thing that tainted our experience was that both times we visited, a family with younger kids monopolized the show with requests. The Carnival website lists the Piano Bar as a 21-plus venue, but no one challenged the family. A fun component of this bar is the screens above the bar that carousel through photos the bartenders have taken of RedFrog Pub patrons.
Carnival Radiance sails year-round out of Long Beach, California, with itineraries in the Mexican Riviera.
Another time, the printed daily had the wrong theater show listed for that night; the correct one was posted in the HUB. On another day, the printed schedule was missing part four of a four-part show, which did show up on the agenda in the app. One afternoon later in the sailing, two different crew members approached me a total of six times in less than half an hour while I was having lunch on the Lido deck.

And because the ship is so small, it's easy to navigate, and I always end up making friends with the delightful crew onboard. Carnival Sunshine (formerly Carnival Destiny) is 10 years old and a fan favorite. The lower guest capacity, at just over 3,000 for double occupancy, means you won’t have to fight hoards of people to get to and from activities. Families who want even more cabin space should book one of the aft-view extended balcony rooms with great wake views and ample private outdoor space.
This helps to keep you from leaving the lights on when you aren’t in the room. However, it can be easy to walk out of the cabin and forget your keycard in the reader. As you enter, you have closet and storage space on your left and the cabin bathroom on your right. Enter further into your room and you’ll see a small desk with mirror and pull-out stool on the left.

It was clear from the moment we stepped on the ship that if you didn't have a fun time, it was entirely your fault. Last October, I joined a group of friends for a three-night sailing on Carnival Radiance out of Long Beach, California, and our itinerary included one sea day and a full day in Ensenada, Mexico. Most onboard activities such as shows and deck-top attractions are included in the fare.
Cloud 9 Spa Balcony
TPG's Kristy Tolley accepted a free trip from Carnival Cruise Line to cruise on Carnival Sunshine. The opinions expressed below are entirely hers and weren't subject to review by the line. Your private stateroom is more than just a place to rest and recharge — see the comfy options available.
On older Carnival ships (and, in general, all older cruise ships), there are far fewer balcony cabins. Fewer than 10% of cabins on the line's two oldest vessels, Carnival Paradise and Carnival Elation, are balcony cabins. The size of an Interior stateroom on a Carnival cruise ship depends on which ship you’re sailing on and which category of Interior cabin you choose, but you expect a room that’s between 155 and 185 square feet. Launched in 1996 as Carnival Destiny, the ship received an overhaul and a new name in 2013.
What I don't love about Carnival Jubilee
Check out meetups for solo travelers, singles, veterans and members of the LGBTQ+ community listed in the daily program. Particularly notable are the rotating animations that pop up throughout the Currents zone during each voyage. Carnival Jubilee offers a full roundup of daily activities on each voyage. I'm not a huge drinker, so I didn't personally try cocktails from the Center Stage Bar (Deck 6) or Grand View Bar (Deck 7) in Grand Central.
The line's focus on having a great time is infused in every aspect of your cruise experience, and guests are an extension of that ethos. Every passenger I encountered was friendly and ready to participate in all the activities the Fun Squad had planned. On my second sailing on Sunshine, a four-night Bahamas cruise out of Charleston, I found myself surrounded by a diverse group, though most passengers hailed from South Carolina. My shipmates included lots of families, couples traveling together and multigenerational reunion groups. Each time I've sailed on Carnival Radiance, I have opted for an interior cabin. I've stayed in this room type both solo and with friends or a spouse, and I think it always has enough space for two people.

This blog helps over a million people to plan their cruises each month. Some Cloud 9 Spa Interior rooms do actually have a fairly large window. This doesn’t look out over the ocean though, it overlooks a walkway, but if you want some natural light in your room then be sure to look out for these on the deckplans. If you aren’t too bothered about having a view but would like a little more room to move than in a smaller Interior, then a Premium Interior is a good middle ground. You’ll still save money compared to a Balcony but you’ll feel less cramped.
Back inside, Deck 6's Piano Bar is where passengers can order a tipple while an onboard pianist tickles the ivories. Make your way up a deck, and you'll find the Limelight Lounge, which serves as a secondary performance space and trivia outpost. The space is simply packed with tables — so much so that there were only about two inches between my table and the one next to me, even though I was dining alone. It then took nearly 10 minutes for a waiter to bring me water and another 10 before someone came to take my order.
